President Trump told us that we rely for too much on foreign nations for our supply chain of goods. Throughout his recent trade war with China, this has become more and more apparent. And now, with the realization that China may have launched an attack on our country, he wants something to be done about it.
Walmart has answered the call. Plans are reportedly underway in the multibillion-dollar chain to remove from the stores any and all goods that originated in China. This means that anything from a Chinese company or from an American company that manufactures in China, will no longer be sold by Walmart.
This is a bold and unprecedented move and one that will likely result in 95 percent of Walmart stock disappearing from the shelves. Joe Barron, a Walmart PR representative, says they have a plan in place that will address this issue:
“It’s true, by removing any Chinese products from our stores, we will also be removing almost everything we sell. Obviously, our massive stores will have a lot of empty space as a result.
It was first proposed that we address the issue by sourcing only American-made goods, that is those that use American parts and American labor exclusively. This could certainly be done, though or product selection may change somewhat. The customer would adjust to that though.
What we are confident our customers would not adjust to, however, is the humongous price increases that they would see as a result of only having American-made goods available. The jump in prices would be astronomical and we would no longer be able to offer the heavy discounts that we today do to penny-pinching Americans across the country. We would likely go bankrupt within a month.
That is why we will be proceeding with our second option which is to greatly reduce the size of our stores so that they are no bigger than a walk-in closet.“
Walmart is a true American company and should be applauded for this move. Patriots will surely reward them with increased business so the decision is financially sound as well.
