In what appears to be yet another case of last minute shenanigans perpetrated by the Democrats, US Representative Ilhan Abdullahi Omar (D-MI) along with her fellow Michigan Democrat Rashida Tlaib managed to insert a previously unknown bill into the bipartisan infrastructure package.
Specifically, the law requires the IRS to convert all numbers on its tax forms into Arabic numerals, and taxpayers to use the same numbering system when filing tax returns. Taxpayers who do not comply with the new law will be fined $5,000 for each form that does not meet the new requirements.
Because the bill was included in the infrastructure package, which passed both the house and the senate a few weeks ago and President Biden has already signed, it has now become the law o the land and cannot be changed or contested unless the next congress rescinds it.
Speaking in his native Arabic at a Dearborn, MI town hall meeting on Friday evening, Omar spokesman Grabhir Boubhi explains why the law was passed:

IRS spokesperson Cletus Derpfinger was at a loss to explain how the agency was going to comply on such a short notice:
“Well dang it if I know how we’re going to be able to do this by filing season. Every single tax form is going to have to be changed. Plus we’re going to have to educate the taxpayers on how to properly use Arabic numerals.
It’s gonna be a mess, is all I can tell ya. A lot of people are going to owe us a lot of money.”
