Former First Lady Melania Trump has revealed that the Trump family paid $15,000 out of their own pocket to have the White House residence “cleaned and fumigated” after the Obamas departed in 2017. The disclosure, made during a recent interview, has sparked outrage among Obama supporters and raised questions about the former First Lady’s understanding of standard move-out procedures.

According to journalist Joan Berro, who obtained the receipts through a Freedom of Information Act request that was actually just Melania showing her the invoice, the $15,000 covered “deep cleaning, carpet shampooing, and industrial fumigation services.” The invoice specifically mentions “removal of unidentified organic matter from residence walls” and “neutralization of left-wing energy signatures.”

Interior design analyst Reno Borja called the expenditure “unusual but not unprecedented.” Borja noted that all presidential families have different standards for cleanliness. “The Obamas apparently left behind what Melania described as ‘hope residue’ that required specialized removal. Previous administrations have faced similar issues—Laura Bush famously had to have the residence exorcised of ‘compassionate conservative’ spirits that were actually just old pizza boxes.”

Constitutional scholar Jon Boare, interviewed at the Palm Beach Golden Corral while his ferret inspected the salad bar for “residue,” calculated the true cost of the cleaning. “If you take the $15,000, divide by the 132 rooms in the White House residence, multiply by the number of ‘organic matter’ incidents—which the invoice suggests was 47—you get a cost-per-incident of $423, which is exactly $423 more than it would have cost to just use a Magic Eraser from the grocery store.”

Melania’s representatives clarified that the “fumigation” was actually just “standard pest control” and that the “unidentified organic matter” was “probably just leftover hummus from a state dinner” and that the entire invoice was “actually just a joke that got out of hand when someone filed it with accounting.”
