With the Alec Baldwin murder trial making the rounds all over the news, it was just inevitable for it to be discussed eventually on ABC’s premiere talker The View.  For over forty-five minutes and through two commercial breaks, the ladies argued back and forth about what really happened that day and Baldwin’s culpability.

It’s no surprise then, that host Whoopi Goldberg, probably the most liberal of the cast and a personal friend of Baldwin’s after appearing in the film “Horsey Go Boom” together, made a huge case for his innocence.

“Look.  The propmaster was responsible for the prop gun.  He even said he told Alec it was safe.  It was an accident, plain and simple, and if anyone’s at fault, it was him.”

Joy Behar took the opportunity to play devil’s advocate.

“Prop guns don’t fire real bullets, though.”

“Of course they do,” Goldberg shot back.  ‘They fire blanks.  Why don’t you ask Brandon Lee or Jon Erik-Hexum about it.”

Both actors were killed accidentally on their movie sets by prop guns.  Goldberg went on with her explanation.

“He was told that the gun was safe, fired it as told, and the accident occurred.  That’s it.  It has nothing to do with being his responsibility because it wasn’t.  It’s not hard to understand.  I have absolutely no idea why all these conservative bumbledicks don’t get that.”

Baldwin will be facing Judge Joseph Barron in court for the next week nonetheless, and the case continues.
