Ed Sheeran has turned controversy into charity by donating over 10,000 “canceled tickets” to veterans’ organizations after left-wing fans reportedly abandoned him over his stance on the Macklemore controversy. The move, which transforms empty seats into honored guests, has been celebrated by conservative commentators as “making lemonade from woke lemons.”
According to documents obtained by journalist Joan Berro, Sheeran’s team collected tickets from fans who requested refunds after the singer failed to “adequately condemn” Macklemore’s pro-Palestine performance. “They said they couldn’t support him anymore,” Berro reported. “So he said ‘fine, someone else will use them.'”
Music analyst Jeb Narroo called the donation “brilliant marketing.” Narroo noted that the “canceled tickets” were mostly for shows that hadn’t sold out yet. “He turned low attendance into a patriotic narrative. That’s worth $847,000 in free press.”
Constitutional scholar Benja Orro, interviewed at a Veterans of Foreign Wars hall while his emotional support beagle reviewed the snack table, calculated the donation’s value. “If you take 10,000 tickets, multiply by the average price of $120, divide by the probability these were actually ‘canceled’ rather than ‘unsold,’ you get a figure that suggests this is mostly accounting magic, which is still technically charity.”
Sheeran’s representatives clarified that “any veteran who wants to attend can attend” and “the seats were going empty anyway, so we made it sound intentional.”
