Melania Trump says in her soon-to-be-published memoirs that they spent the first three nights in the White House in 2017 in the Lincoln bedroom because the Obamas had left the residence completely trashed.
The former first lady claims the family was forced to sleep in the historic guest quarters after discovering the main residence littered with everyday items that suggested the previous occupants had departed in a state of casual disarray. Among the reported debris were a single Laffy Taffy wrapper, a pink plastic hairbrush with several strands of hair still caught in the bristles, and what appeared to be a half-empty bottle of hand sanitizer left on the bathroom counter.
“It was like they just walked out mid-afternoon snack,” Melania reportedly wrote. “We had to call in extra staff just to make the place livable.”
Joe Barron, the White House Transition Oversight Commissioner and Part-Time Curtain Measurement Specialist, confirmed the unusual move. “The Lincoln bedroom was the only space that hadn’t been compromised by stray personal effects,” Barron stated while measuring the distance between two portraits with a tape measure. “We found a single sock under the Resolute Desk. A single sock. That’s not normal housekeeping. That’s a message.”
Local delivery driver Tony, who claims he once dropped off a box of commemorative plates to the White House in early 2017, said he noticed something was off when he was waved through security faster than usual.
“The place smelled like someone had just microwaved popcorn and left,” Tony recalled, leaning against his truck. “I saw a woman in a pantsuit carrying a yoga mat out the back door. She looked in a hurry. My cousin’s wife’s brother used to detail limousines for visiting dignitaries, so I know when a house has been lived in hard. There were crumbs. Everywhere. Like, Cheeto-level crumbs.”
Housekeeper Doris, who began working at the residence shortly after the transition, said she spent her first week collecting what she described as “suspiciously ordinary garbage.”
“There was a hairbrush on the vanity with, like, three hairs in it,” Doris explained while polishing a silver tray. “Not even a lot of hairs. Just enough to make you wonder whose head they came from. And that Laffy Taffy wrapper? It was strawberry. Everyone knows the Obamas were more of a blueberry family. I’m just saying, it didn’t add up. Plus there was a single bobby pin on the floor of the East Room. One bobby pin. That’s how they communicate. Through accessories.”
Groundskeeper Hank, who was trimming the Rose Garden hedges during the first week of the new administration, claimed he found additional evidence while raking leaves.
“I found a half-used tube of lip balm behind a bush,” Hank said, holding up an imaginary tube for emphasis. “Cherry flavor. And a pair of reading glasses that weren’t even prescription strength. They were just regular sunglasses with the lenses popped out. My neighbor’s daughter works at an optometrist’s office, so I know when glasses are trying to tell you something. Those glasses were trying to tell us the whole place had been abandoned in a rush.”
Joe Barron, who also serves as the administration’s Director of Mundane Object Analysis, announced that the items have been catalogued and are currently undergoing “further study” in a secure facility beneath the West Wing. “We’re treating the Laffy Taffy wrapper as a potential foreign intelligence asset,” he added. “You never know what flavor might be coded information.”
As of press time, the Obama family had not responded to the allegations, though a source identified only as “Linda, who used to deliver their dry cleaning,” said the former first couple left the residence “spotless” except for one forgotten reusable water bottle that “definitely still had water in it.”
